2010 Rules

RULE #1: HAVE FUN, you are golfing with some great people! Share some laughs and have a good time.

PLAY: The League will play as teams consisting of one male and one female, except under special circumstances approved the the membership. Tee times will be from 4:15 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. All league members must be off the tee by 5:15 p.m. U.S.G.A. rules apply to this league unless noted in these league rules or course rules. Winter rules apply to this league; you may improve your lie in the fairway up to 12 inches, but no closer to the green. You may move your ball up to two (2) club lengths away from a fence or other man-made obstruction, not trees.

SCORING: Couples will golf as a team and no individual points will be awarded. Two (2) points will be awarded to the team who wins each hole and two (2) points for totals; for a total of twenty (20) possible points each week of play. These points will determine the winners of each half. Only ten (10) strokes are allowed by individuals on each hole. Upon reaching the ten (10) stroke limit, the player must pick up the ball and mark a ten plus (10 +) on the scorecard for that hole. A ten plus (10 +) will be scored as an eleven (11) for scoring purposes, this way a natural ten (10) will beat a ten + (10 +).

HANDICAPS: All returning golfers will begin the season with last year's ending average for the first week only. Beginning the second week, all handicaps will be calculated on all rounds golfed. Handicap for each golfer will be 80% for the difference from par. New golfers will be given a handicap for the first round as follows: Men = 40 and Women = 50. Each team individual handicaps will be added together and compared against the opposing team's total. The team with the higher total will receive the difference in strokes as their handicap for that match. The strokes will be divided over the nine holes according to the handicap rating of the course.

SUBSTITUTES: Substitute golfers are allowed except on position nights. The league member is responsible for paying the regular green fees. Substitute golfers will pay the league treasurer $5.00 for each round of golf.

In the event of absenteeism, the following rules apply:
A. The absent golfer's score will be their current average plus 5 strokes. This total will be divided over nine (9) holes for that round according to the handicap for each hole.
B. No points are awarded for teams who do not show up without a substitute or for golfers who do not complete their round of golf, which is all 9 holes. If the opposing team continues to play it will be as if they were playing the blind team.
C. All make-up rounds must be played prior to or 2 days after scheduled round. At least one (1) league member, other than those golfing a make-up, must golf on any make-up round as witness. Make-up round scorecards MUST be turned in to the league secretary in person (not in the clubhouse envelope).
D. Absent golfers must notify a league officer or the league Secretary and the   opposing couple they will be golfing, whenever possible, of their intent to be      absent. The golf course is not responsible for taking messages. This will be       enforced. As a courtesy, please call your opposing team to confirm your tee times every week.
E. No more than two (2) make up rounds may be turned in during each half       season unless approved by the league President ahead of time as an            extenuating circumstance. Any make-up rounds over the limit will not count        toward team points.
F. If your opposing team does not show up, contact an officer and wait at least two foursomes before teeing off. The officers may pair you up with another team.

SCORECARDS: One (1) member of each team must sign scorecards. Signed scorecards make the round official and cannot be changed. An envelope is attached to the bulletin board in the clubhouse if the Secretary is not available to accept the card.

SCHEDULE: League play will begin every Monday at 4:15 p.m. starting
April 26,2009 and will run for 18 weeks. The league will not play on Monday May 31 (Memorial Day) and June 14 (International K of C Golf week). Rain checks will be issued for these dates. Position Nights will be held on June 21 for the first half and August 16 for the second half. On August 23 the winners from each half will golf to determine an overall league champion for the season. All other teams will play a fun tournament determined by the league officers.

GREEN FEES: Green fees are to be paid to the league Treasurer. The green fee for each golfer is $9.75 plus an additional $4.75 for the prize fund and banquet, making a total of $14.00 per golfer per week. An optional weekly Closest-To-Pin contest is available for $1.00 each:  Closest-To-Pin is on hole #2 or #14 (shortest holes), one for men & one for women (second shot). Total green fees/prize money is $252.00 per person/season. The Treasurer will collect the first half money of $126 per golfer on April 26 and the second half money of $126 per golfer on June 21. Payments must be made on time in order for the league to pay the golf course every week. If the Treasurer is not present, payments are to be given to the league Vice President. Checks should be made payable to "Robert Jones Mixed Golf".

The President and Vice President will pay the green fee of $9.75 per week with the banquet prize money being waived in lieu of a salary. The Treasurer and Secretary will pay the prize fund portion of $4.25 per week with the green fee amount being waived in lieu of a salary.

TOURNAMENT AND BANQUET: League members in good standing, and guests approved by the President, may attend the 4 X 4 golf tournament and banquet (picnic). The Grand Knight and Deputy Grand Knight may be invited at no charge to them. This year's picnic will be on August 29, 2009 at Lions Park in Southgate from 12-6pm. We will play an 18-hole scramble prior to the picnic. Tournament Rules will be posted on our golf website prior to the tournament. The overall winner of the league season will be first to choose their gift and the other half winners will choose second. The remainder of the league will pick their gifts by drawing names. You must be present at the banquet to pick your gift and receive your steak. No carry outs.

FUNDRAISER: Because of scheduling problems, we will not have a fundraiser this year. It was voted to add $1.25 per golfer per week to prize money to make up for the loss in revenue from the fundraiser. (Original prize money - $3.00 plus additional $1.25)

Rules Committee Clarifications:

1. Gimmies are allowed  (a gimmie is a short putt, less than 24 inches, conceded by your opponent. You count the gimmie as one stroke)
2. Couples will golf as a team and no individual points will be awarded. The handicaps for scoring will be assigned as a team, not to individual golfers.
